Jurrasic coast : the Durdle Door

I was after many sites of historical importance when I first came to Europe. Museums, victorian or midieval time buildings..you know. Now, I guess, Sorrento and Devon have changed my perspective on travelling Europe. Forget about the dead gothic buildings, this is heaven!

Of all the places we had (for the past 6 months, as documented here), my husband and I had jumped to a conclusion; 2 things money can't buy are history and nature landscape preserved.

It was kinda a last minute decision to have the Jurrasic coast into our South Devon trip, since the coastal is located at Dorset hundred miles away. It was quitea trip indeed but worth it! The access to the Durdle Door is at the The Durdle Door Holiday Park (another self-catering park site, same as ours at Brixham). Paid the parking ticket, lunched by the sea view and walked almost 10 minutes down to the beach.

 the Durdle Door!

Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch and it is privately owned by the Welds, now can you imagine someone is owning this? Must be hundreds of thousands years of inheritance.

Ok, I hope you don't mind scrolling for more pictures,

hehe ok..Durdle Door, the most celebrated arch =) ..and it's time to hike up again!

The last time I had hiking was at the Great Wall of China. huh..

The Jurassic Coast consists of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous cliffs, spanning the Mesozoic Era, documenting 180 million years of geological history (wiki). This wow coastal is under UNESCO and located at south England..haish, why is the southern always so interesting?!

Sampai sini dulu..cantik sangat kan? I've never seen anything like this. Not even in my dream. Durdle Door is just a part of the Jurrasic Coast, and another one we went was the Lulworth Cove. Next entry!

South Devon trip : Aariz had a little lamb!

Oh our third day in Devon was such a bliss! Train ride, picnic lunch and visited a petting farm which was right next to the picnic area at Totnes station. Aariz had fun tried to grab the lambs (his favorite!), chased ducks, stared at llama (my first time too!), ran freely, smiles and shout! haha

In case you're wondering.., yes Aariz sorang saja budak yang berani main dengan kambing!

wonderful setting....the hills..

Farm outing is a popular activities for kids and families here, unlike back in our country. Rather than playing with plastic animals or just looking at pictures in books,  it is a chance to see and interact with the real thing. I know there's one in Kluang, Johor. Check this out ; http://www.ukfarm.com.my/.

Since it's officially spring now I'm happily looking forward for farm outing again.

p/s teringat masa kecil dulu, main dengan kerbau dan kambing di bendang nenek..bestnya zaman dulu kan?

South Devon trip : South Devon Railway day trip

Since Windermere, I always wanted to go back to a countryside. Just where a river flows out, rolling hills and grassland. English holidays are much more like this, I guess? A leisurely trip, not multiple places at one time in my mind, I stumbled on an information about this steam railway trip. It runs only 7 miles (Aariz easily gets restless and bored)

The steam railway runs between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. It also stops at Steverton (in between the two places), arrive in Totnes and return back to Buckfastleigh. There's an ample free parking at Buckfastleigh. So it was just convinience for us.

Since 1872, the line never made a profit but being used for goods traffic. Now it became a tourist attractions in Devon. It was classic but well presented. All volunteer staff were senior, thus friendlier I must say =)

The museum at Buckfastleigh station displayed a model of locomotive, photographs and so.

Rev W Awdry was better known as 'the Thomas and the Tank Engine man,' the creator of the pantheon of steam-driven childhood gods which run the rails of that enchanting railway system on the fictional Island of Sodor. The island of Sodor is somewhere between the british mainland and the Isle of Man.

And when the train arrived, suddenly the station turned out like those in movie scene. One thing I like about train-station, everybody was like waving to each other..haha, yang botak2  macho pun terpengaruh.

We didn't make a stop at Steverton. This is us at the Totnes station. The station has been built from buildings and artifacts rescued from Great Western railway ( memang keretapi terlama di England)

The picnin area where we had our packed lunch,

..and an award winning Rare Breed Farm is attached to the picnic area. But that would be in another entry.
